#259: Iris (Goo Goo Dolls cover) - Sleeping With Sirens

Okay, I know everyone thinks that the original version of a song is always better than any cover that has or will ever be done, and I believe this too, but oh my sweet lord, Sleeping With Sirens did an absolutely amazing job covering this song, and I think that it’s better than the original. This cover gives me goosebumps and makes me smile and cry and such, whereas the original may’ve sometimes given me the slightest goosebumps. Such a beautiful cover.

(if it’s not working, here is a link for the video on YouTube)

#258: Blood Bank - Bon Iver

This song is so chill. It kind of has a sad vibe to it, but it is absolutely lovely. I love that it’s just vocals and guitar. Simplicity is sometimes best, my friends.

I also love when he sings “and I said I know it well”. It seems to add the slightest bit of diversity to the vocals.

#257 Brooklyn (If You See Something, Say Something) - Taking Back Sunday

I’m surprised I haven’t uploaded this song already. It’s probably one of my favourites by them, although I’m sure I have so many favourites. If you didn’t already know, this song appears as an ITunes bonus track off of Louder Now. Definitely worth the 99 cents it’d cost you to download. It’s like this chill kind of rock. You know how they do (TBS lyric reference) haha. But honestly it’s a good one. Whether you’re from New York, a Taking Back Sunday fan or just like good music, this one’s for you.

#256 Sidewalks - Story Of The Year

So much nostalgia from this song! Not only because this song is a few years old but also because it contains a somewhat nostalgic vibe. It’s a sweet little song. Nothing too noisey or annoying.  The music is slow, the vocals are clean. What else do you need?

#255 Tell Them That She’s Not Scared (acoustic) - Envy On The Coast

One day I was lurking through YouTube and found this version. I’m absolutely in love with it. Ryan Hunter has the most amazing vocals. I had the pleasure of going to see them several years ago and I can honestly say he is one of the most intense performers on stage and his voice is truly that astounding. This version was recorded as part of one of the AP sessions (all other songs can be found here). It’s tragic that this band isn’t together anymore because all of their songs are seriously so freaking good but Ryan’s new band, North Korea, has yet to let me down so I think I’ll learn to survive.

#254 We’re Going To Be Friends - The White Stripes

This is just a cute little number. There’s so many love songs out there that it’s nice to find a song you can relate to someone you know without them getting totally creeped out. It reminds me of that one song they sing in Juno (you know the one I’m talking about, with Ellen Page and Michael Cera on acoustic). It’s nice and happy and nostalgic and a good song for your springtime playlist.

#253 Limousine - Brand New

If you’re going to listen to this song, I suggest you do your research behind what the song’s about. I only learned about it a few months ago and was so creeped out. It’s really eerie and makes the song that much more amazing. I swear you’ll never listen to it the same again. My favourite part is most definitely the chorus, that whole “well I love you so much, but do me a favor…” part. Brand New is always good at creating the perfect lyrics to repeat over and over again.

#252 Downtown - Petula Clark

Found this song on my Uncle who passed’s iPod. I used to listen to it when I was younger. Brought back some great memories. It’s a good one. Hope you enjoy.

#251 The Music Or The Misery - Fall Out Boy

So it’s kind of a shame that this song only appears as a bonus track because it’s seriously amazing. I guess that makes it a true hidden treasure. I love that they just get right into it. There’s no long introduction or anything. The beginning is probably my favourite part too. Just the way it’s sung and everything is perfect. Oh and in case you weren’t aware the song titled is a quote from the movie High Fidelity so serious bonus points for the reference!

#250 Blue Hawaiian - Pavement

So I actually discovered this song from my friend’s IPod when she tried to download some songs by the band Brighten and somehow ended up getting this song. It’s got this funky chill vibe to it. Reminds me of something Cake would do. I really dig it though. I’ve never even heard of this band before I looked up this song. Not too shabby though!
